Our History:
Faith Chapel of Muscatine, Iowa started in November, 1991, in the home of Paul and Betty Brewer along with a group of people who had been meeting in homes for a number of years. They had decided it was time to take the group out of the homes, at least for Sunday services, and find a person who would become their pastor. They knew that Pastor Yohe was available and so he was asked to be a part of that meeting. There was some discussion of options such as becoming Assemblies of God, Foursquare Gospel Church, or a Vineyard Fellowship. Pastor Yohe stated that since there were so many unchurched people in Muscatine from these various backgrounds that the group should begin as an independent - non-denominational church. The thought was that as the church grew the church could become a part of any of the mentioned groups or even some other group which hadn't been mentioned.
Ron Yohe agreed to become the Pastor. The group decided on the name of Faith Chapel. A three member board of directors was chosen: Ronald Yohe, President, Jim Noble Jr., Vice President, and Paul Brewer, Secretary/Treasurer.
Regularly scheduled meetings: Sunday Morning, Sunday Evening, and Wednesday evening services were established and held at the Lincoln Center on Park Ave, Muscatine, IA.
A number of years later, property was purchased and the first building was built at
The building was designed by Pastor Yohe and the board. They decided the building should not only meet the present needs of the church, but also be designed so that it wouldn't be so "churchy" that it would be difficult to sell as a professional or commercial building when the congregation out-grew the building.
In January 2007 the property at 2205 2nd. Ave was sold and a little over 3 acres were purchased on North Tipton Rd and plans for a new building were put in place with plans to begin construction to begin in the spring of 2007.
Update:
The same week that the property on North Tipton Rd was purchased, Faith Chapel was approached by Riverbend Assembly Church about a possible merger. The Pastor's comment was, "We have a church but only a few people; You have people but no church." After discussions by both churches and attorneys, an agreement were made and Faith Chapel began meeting at the Riverbend location (2 miles across the river) on April 1, 2007
During the following months, a new specialized metal roof was installed, all windows and doors replaced, all siding was removed and replaced with siding that looks like wood but is made of a concrete compound, plus the entire parking lot and driveway was paved.
Faith Chapel maintained the same board for over 10 years which we believe speaks highly of the Grace of God and the character and faithfulness of the leadership and congregation.
As is the case with any church, the church must be "experienced" to fully understand and appreciate it. By that we mean, reading about us is helpful, but why not come and "experience" us. We are small enough to be personal, but large enough to be effective. Remember, "You may already have a friend at Faith Chapel."
At one point we found the need to add the word "Church" to the end of our name - Faith Chapel Church. We found that some people think the word "Chapel" means we are a chapel for weddings and funerals and don't realize it is a "full service" church.
Our present board consists of Pastor Ron Yohe, Paul Brewer, and Bill Frieden, and Bill Frederick.
